GUSTAVO QUINTERO
Singer and composer, is one of the most emblematic musical artists in Venezuela andthe creator of the genre Urban Cumbia. It’s, as he describes, a perfect fusion of the good cumbia with the Afro-Caribbean instruments along with urban sounds.
The Tropical music flavor runs through his veins and since very little he had a preference for the danceable music and following his father’s steps, he decides to get on the artistic world. During 1991, he got in the musical orchestra “La Misma Nota”, a band nationally recognized where he obtained the award as the Solo Revelation of the Year winning the Golden Mara and received on the same year the Golden Orchid, one of the most important awards in Venezuela, for the song “Perdí mi Juramento”.
To the sound of the Folk music
The folk music is a Venezuelan rhythm from the region of Zulia and is characterized by having a formal chorus-verse structure and Gustavo Quintero has been participating on emblematic groups of folk music in Venezuela for about 10 years (Cardenales del Éxito, Gran Coquivacoa, and Pillopo), being on thousands of stages infecting the dancer asthe soloist of these groups filing them with flavor and music.
Son de la Calle
On 1995, Gustavo Quintero became independent and founded the orchestra “Son de la Calle” along other artists of the same genre, managing to monopolize all the stations and parties with their presentations with their hits. He decides to record a song called “Rico Jalaito” and it’s a huge hit acclaimed by every dancer in Colombia and Venezuela.
During the same year, he is invited by the Colombian label Discos Fuentes to record a production titled “Homenaje a mi padre” along with his father Willy Quintero, obtaining the honor and pride of recording songs that were a huge success in both countries. They could happily share stage on their tour in both countries with the biggest stars of the genre such as “The Super Band of Venezuela Guaco”, Gilberto Santa Rosa, Olga Tañón, Los Melódicos, Oscar D’ León and others.
On 2010, he recorded a single for Discos Fuentes titled “Dame un Chin Chin”, a song that opened doors in the Colombian market and allowed him to go to the main stages in that country. On 2013 was a year of recognition, for the received awards such as The Eagle of Venezuela and Platinum Zuliano as the Revelation Artist of the Year, Mara International 2013 as International Artist of the Year.
Innovation
Gustavo created the fusion of the Urban Cumbia with a touch of pop and Urban synthesizers that decorate every song. Today, it’s been more than 20 years transmitting his music to his followers in Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Guatemala and Dominican Republic with songs such as “Estoy Enamorado” (2013), “No Cabe Duda” (2014), “Tributo a Selena” (2015), some of the most played in that season.
The New Market
It’s 2015 and as the market demands, the King of the Urban Cumbia is invited to expand his music on the American market and he decides to expand his repertoire to continue sharing his music with an urban tropical flavor, receiving the invitation to compose under the production of the maestro Rey Casas, Gilberto Ferrer and Ronald Guerra, where he managed to obtain a star of Venezuela as Revelation Artist of the Year on 2015.
Latin Grammy
EDuring that same year, as Gustavo was producing, he got the honor to receive the award from the Latin Academy of Music for two of the songs: Cover Tributo a Selena and No Cabe Duda,, from his album “Que vuelva”.
“Que Vuelva”
Is the name of his first album and you can enjoy 12 songs that will make you dance since the very first moment you listen to it: it has the participation of three big artist of international trajectory such as Oscar D’ León with whom he recorded the song “La Cadenita”, a cover of the original song by his father Willy Quintero “Carmen se me perdió la cadenita”. During a visit to the city of Los Angeles, he met Beatriz Solís, who invited him to produce the song “Que Vuelva”, which was originally recorded by the huge of Mexico: Marco Antonio Solís and by Beatriz Adriana. Year 2020
In spite of the circumstances and the difficult times that we lived around the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gustavo Quintero remained refuged inside his home with his family and he discovered in quarantine what turned into his new passion and, without noticing, he started to compose songs inspired in his own experiences, writing “Siento”, a song that’s the first single of his second album.
Arturo Sandoval
For many years, Gustavo admired the talent of the maestro Sandoval, who has been catalogued as the best Trumpet of the World and without even thinking, he offered this musical jewel to him to accompany him in a Trumpet solo, adding his touch to the song. The King of Urban Cumbia is currently working hard to get on more market fields with the internationalization of his most recent songs, keeps taking important steps and, he signed the distribution of his discographic material and as a composer this year along J&N RECORD, a label that receives him to supporting him and helps him expand his urban cumbia to get on more stages.
